Susan Crosby is the Director of Major Gifts in the Development Department at CI. While fundraising is the primary mission of her job, Susan cultivates awareness and interests in CI's mission among the organization's donors and supporters. Susan began her fundraising career working for Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, where she completed her undergraduate degree in International Affairs and French. Susan subsequently completed an M.A. in International Development with a focus on Economic Policy from American University in Washington, DC. Her love for working with people as well as her passion for conservation was her motivation to continue fundraising for not-for-profit environmental organizations. Prior to working at CI, Susan worked at the American Hiking Society and started the organization's first national leadership council. The leadership council was later responsible for raising forty thousand dollars, which was then used to provide grants to smaller member organizations. Susan feels her role as a conservationist is imperative because the funds she raises are used for conservation projects in the countries where CI is located. Moreover, knowing that she has contributed her time to a good cause - biodiversity conservation - makes her job meaningful. Susan advises meeting and talking with as many people as possible in the conservation field if you are interested in pursuing this line of work.
