Lisa S. Bowen is the Senior Director of Communications in the Communication, Marketing, and Education Department at Conservation International (CI). Some of Lisa's responsibilities include oversight of the domestic media team, message development for materials published at CI, editorial contributions to CI's outreach newsletter, and deputy responsibilities to the Vice President. Lisa studied English - Journalism at the University of Louisiana and completed her postgraduate work in France at the Universite d' Aix-Marselle in international relations and political science. She began her career as a journalist working for a daily newspaper in Lafayette, Louisiana. Following her studies in France, she worked as a writer/editor for the Army Corps of Engineers in Germany. When she returned to the states, she resumed her work as a news reporter in Lafayette. She moved to Washington, D.C. to work with syndicated newspaper columnist Jack Anderson of United Media. Lisa made her debut in the conservation scene when she transitioned from working as a journalist to a writer/editor for the National Wildlife Federation, a large not-for-profit environmental organization based in Washington, DC. She worked for the National Wildlife Federation for seven years, where she learned the fundamentals of biodiversity conservation. Lisa feels her role as a conservationist is important because she promotes public awareness about the conservation of biodiversity and aids CI field staff in developing communications strategies needed to successfully accomplish their goals. Lisa's advice to people wanting to enter the field of conservation is to research various organizations and agencies, and to intern for the one that best fits your interest.
