Eric Michel is developing a centralized database management system for storing all of CI's geo-spatial data that will be accessible via Geographic Information System(GIS) software and web mapping applications.

Eric earned both his B.A. and his M.A. in Geography and Urban Planning from the University of Toledo.

Prior to joining CI, Eric worked as a GIS project manager/application developer in both the environmental and telecommunication sectors. Ironically, the most difficult aspect of Eric's job is also his most enjoyable; as a data administrator he has to constantly try to maintain a level of competency in a field, which is continuously changing, but at the same time he enjoys his work because he is consistently learning new things everyday.

Eric views his role in conservation as extremely important because he has been creating a system, which will allow the global scientific community to share information. The advice Eric has for people whose interest is in the conservation field is to pick a niche in the field, stay focused, and become a savant in that particular area of conservation.
