Hi!
I'm Jensen Montambault and welcome aboard the Guyana RAP
expedition! Over the course of two weeks, I'll be the expedition's
online reporter and guide. I will introduce you to our team of
expert scientists from all over the world, as we delve into the
unexplored wilderness of the Eastern Kanuku Mountains in Southern
Guyana.
I
work for Conservation International's
Rapid Assessment Program (RAP), and help coordinate these
expeditions to amazing places all over the world. I was previously
a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Nicaragua where I worked with
teachers in environmental education. Up till now, all of my experience
has been in South and Central America in Spanish and Portuguese
speaking countries. Since Guyana is predominately an English speaking
culture, I am excited to get to know yet another country of the
Americas.
This
is my third expedition as a reporter. Feel free to check out the
two previous expeditions I wrote for Conservation International
from Botswana's Okavango Delta
and Venezuela's Río Caura.
My
philosophy is that scientific writing can be equally accurate
AND interesting to read. I studied both Environmental Science
and English at The University of Virginia where I graduated in
1995. I think a lot of people start environmental careers hoping
to save the world. I have learned in my work with other cultures
that often, the most profound changes I've effected are with me,
personally.
